A nuclear magnetic resonance imaging apparatus which does not cause any unnecessary mental disturbances in the object, and which is capable of taking images with patient's postures other than lying flat. The apparatus includes a main magnet having two separated poles arranged in parallel for generating a static magnetic field in an open space between the two poles; and a carrier for carrying an object to be examined into the static magnetic field, capable of supporting the object at arbitrary angles with respect to a floor.
