A plasticizer useful for enhancing the ionic conductivity of a solid polymer electrolyte, comprising a compound of the formula: R.sub.3 C(OC.sub.2 R.sub.4).sub.n CN wherein each R constituent is independently hydrogen, alkyl, aryl alkenyl, or aralkyl and a plasticized solid polymer electrolyte including such a plasticizer.
