Abstract
A polycationic microbicidal and algaecidal agent containing as an active ingredient a polymer comprising repeating units represented by the formula (I) and having a number average molecular weight of at least 1,000, and a microbicidal and algaecidal method using the polymer: ##STR1## (wherein A is a single bond, an oxygen atom, a phenylene group, a dioxyethylene group or a tetramethyldisiloxane group, X.sub.1.sup.- and X.sub.2.sup.- may be the same or different and are counter anions in quaternary salts, p and q may be the same or different and are integers of from 1 to 6, and m is an integer of from 1 to 6, provided that A, X.sub.1.sup.-, X.sub.2.sup.-, p, q and m may be the same or optionally different for every repeating unit).
