Abstract
By hydrating a metal oxide solid solution shown as the following formula (3), wherein an average primary crystal particle diameter is in the range of 1 to 10 .mu.m, in the presence of monocarboxylic acid and/or oxymonocarboxylic acid in aqueous medium, Mg.sub.1-z M.sup.2+.sub.z O (3) in which M.sup.2+ represents at least one divalent metal ion selected from the group consisting of Mn.sup.2+, Fe.sup.2+, Co.sup.2+, Ni.sup.2+, Cu.sup.2+ and Zn.sup.2+, and z is in the range of 0.01.ltoreq.z<0.5, a metal hydroxide solid solution having a high aspect ratio shown as the following formula (1) can be obtained; Mg.sub.1-x M.sup.2+.sub.x (OH).sub.2 (1) in which M.sup.2+ represents at least one divalent metal ion selected from the group consisting of Mn.sup.2+, Fe.sup.2+, Co.sup.2+, Ni.sup.2+, Cu.sup.2+ and Zn.sup.2+, and x is in the range of 0.01.ltoreq.x<0.5, characterized by that a crystal is a hexagonal plate in shape, 0.01 to 0.5 .mu.m in average thickness, 1 to 10 .mu.m in average diameter and not less than 10 in aspect ratio. The metal hydroxide and oxide solid solutions add new functions such as a reinforcing effect on resin, ductility useful for cosmetics and the like and ultraviolet ray absorbancy to functions available for conventional magnesium based metal hydroxide and oxide solid solutions such as a solutions such as a flame-retardant, an acid neutralizer, an acid acceptor for halogen-containing rubber, a thickener for FRP and the like.

Important Notes on Latency of Status data
Please note there is up to 60 days of latency in this Status indicator for certain status conditions. You can obtain up-to-date Status indicator readings by ordering PAIR for the file.
An application with the status "Published" (which means it is pending) may be recently abandoned, but not yet updated to reflect its abandoned status. However, an application filed less than one year ago is unlikely to be abandoned.
A patent with the status "Granted" may be recently expired, but not yet updated to reflect its expired status. However, it is highly unlikely a patent less than 3.5 years old would be expired.
An application with the status "Abandoned" is almost always current, but there is a small chance it was recently revived and the status not yet updated.
Important Note on Priority Date data
This priority date is an estimated earliest priority date and is purely an estimation. This date should not be taken as legal conclusion. No representations are made as to the accuracy of the date listed. Please consult a legal professional before relying on this date.
