Abstract

In a paging system, a central paging station determines a preferred amount of time, or 'sleep value,' that a paging device is to be inactive during a paging cycle based upon the volume of page messages that paging device historically receives during given time periods. After determining a preferred sleep value, the central paging station creates and transmits a wake-up interval page message. The paging device receives the wake-up interval page message and changes its wake-up interval to correspond to the one contained in the received page message.
