A fresco-like finish is created from a coating composition combined with cement and mixed to the formulation in weight proportions of 1:1 to 2:5 of cement and coating composition, respectively, the coating composition comprising: a) 10 to 30% by weight of at least one binder selected from the group consisting essentially of an acrylic polymer binder, an acrylic polymer binder and an acrylic polymer cross-linking binder; b) 20 to 45% by weight of water; c) 5 to 20% by weight of a filler selected from the group consisting essentially of cellulose, paper pulp, or mixtures thereof; d) 10 to 30% by weight of at least one water-insoluble particulate extender including silica sand; and e) a thickening agent.
