Abstract

A device that is retrofittably adapted to a refrigerator warns of a refrigerator door ajar condition. The normal refrigerator internal light is removed and the device is fitted into the light fixture. The light may then be affixed to the device. The device thus receives AC potential each time the refrigerator door is ajar. A time interval counter measures how long the door is ajar, and if a predetermined time interval is exceeded, a alarm is given. The device may also monitor internal refrigerator storage space temperature and sound an alarm when the refrigerator door is ajar if internal temperature is high, to alert of perhaps impending failure. The alarm may include audible, visual, and wirelessly transmitted signals.
