Abstract
An ultraviolet absorbing base material is disclosed in which a vinyl copolymerizable monomer and a benzotriazole ultraviolet absorbing monomer represented by formula (I) or (II) are copolymerized: ##STR1## wherein X represents H or a halogen, R.sub.1 is H or an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 each represents a linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkylene group and R.sub.4 represents H or CH.sub.3.
