Abstract
The process for preparing arylaminohydroxyanthraquinone of the formula ##STR1## by reacting appropriate chlorohydroxyanthraquinone with an amine of the formula (III) H.sub.2 N--Ar (III), is characterized in that one mole of amine of the formula (III) plus an excess of 10 to 100% based on one mole of amine is used per chlorine atom in the compounds of the formula (II) and the reaction is carried out in an inert solvent in the presence of a base selected from the group consisting of the carbonates of the alkali and alkaline earth metals, the acetates of the alkali metals, the phosphates of the alkali metals and any mixtures thereof.
