A method for blocking IL-12 signaling by administration of the following compound: ##STR1## wherein, R.sub.1 is H, CH.sub.3, sulfate, phosphate, or salt thereof; R.sub.2 is alkyl (C.sub.1-12), alkoxyalkyl (C.sub.1-11), dialkoxyalkyl, CH.sub.2 C.sub.6 H.sub.5, --CH.sub.2 -furan, biotin; and R.sub.3 is H, CH.sub.3 or CH.sub.2 C.sub.6 H.sub.5.
