Abstract

Palladium-substituted Bacteriochlorophyll derivatives of formula (I), wherein A represents OH, OR.sub.1, --O--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --Y, --S--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --Y, --NH--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --Y, --O--(CH.sub.2).sub.2 --NH.sub.2, --O--(CH.sub.2).sub.2 --OH, --NH--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --.sup.+ N o, X--, --NH0(CH.sup.2).sup.2 --NH.dbd.BOC or --N--(CH.sub.2 --CH.dbd.CH.sub.2).sub.2 ; wherein R.sub.1 represents Na.sup.+, K.sup.+, (Ca.sup.2+).sub.0, 5, (Mg.sup.2+).sub.0, 5, Li.sup.+, NH.sub.4.sup.+, NH.sub.3 --C(CH.sub.2 OH).sub.3 .sup.+ NH.sub.3 --CH.sub.2 --(CHOH).sub.4 --CH.sub.2 OH, .sup.+ NH.sub.2 (CH.sub.3)--CH.sub.2 --(CHOH).sub.4 --CH.sub.2 OH or .sup.+ N(C.sub.N' H.sub.2n'+1).sub.4 ; R.sub.2 represents H, OH or COOR.sub.4, wherein R.sub.4 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl or C.sub.3 -C.sub.12 cycloalkl; R.sub.3 represents H, OH or C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl or alkoxy; n is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6, Y is --NR'.sub.1 R'.sub.2 R'.sub.3, X-wherein R'.sub.1, R'.sub.2 and R'.sub.3 independently from each other represent --CH.sub.3 or --C.sub.2 H.sub.5 ; X is F, Cl, Br or 1, n' is 1, 2, 3 or 4 and their oxidized forms, are useful in the field of photodynamic therapy (PDT).
