Abstract

The present invention relates to compounds of the formula ##STR1## and pharmaceutically acceptable salts and solvates thereof, wherein R.sup.2 is --CH.sub.2 NHSO.sub.2 --A--R.sup.3, --CONR.sup.10 --A.sup.1 --R.sup.11, --X--NR.sup.12a --Y--NR.sup.13 R.sup.14 or --CO--NR.sup.18 --X.sup.1 --NR.sup.12 --Y--NR.sup.13 R.sup.14 ; R.sup.19, where R.sup.19 is a C-linked, 5-membered aromatic heterocycle containing either (i) from 1 to 4 ring nitrogen atoms or (ii) 1 or 2 ring nitrogen atoms and 1 oxygen or 1 sulphur ring atom, said heterocycle being optionally substituted by C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, said C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl being optionally substituted by phenyl, --OH, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy or --NR.sup.20 R.sup.21 and R.sup.1, A, R.sup.3, R.sup.10, R.sup.11, X, R.sup.12a, Y, R.sup.13, R.sup.14, R.sup.18, X.sup.1, R.sup.21 and R.sup.22 are as defined in the specification. The invention also relates to processes for the preparation of, intermediates used in the preparation of, and compositions containing such compounds and the uses of such compounds as adenosine A2a receptor agonists. The invention is particularly related to methods of treating respiratory diseases such as adult respiratory distress syndrome, bronchitis, chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis, asthma, emphysema bronchiectasis, chronic sinusitis and rhinitis.
