Abstract
A low profile light panel illuminated by a multiple point light sources arranged around its edges, which may be either light emitting diodes connected to an electrical power source or lenses connected by optical fibers to a central light source to provide backlighting. The point light sources are mounted in mirrored edging strips and angled slightly downwards towards a reflective backing sheet, and a diffuser sheet is placed in opposition to the backing sheet to diffuse the reflected light. The diffuser sheet may be covered by a further sheet with cut out numerals and/or letters acting as a mask, for example to display a house number or other alpha-numerical message. Alternatively, the light panel may be employed as a picture frame to provide backlighting to a picture.
