Abstract
A rare earth containing glass nominally based on the ternary P.sub.2O.sub.5--WO.sub.3--Na.sub.2O-Ln.sub.2O.sub.3 compositional space, with WO.sub.3>30-65 mole %, Na.sub.2O 15-35 mole %, P.sub.2O.sub.5 5-65 mole %, Ln.sub.2O.sub.3 (Ln=one or more cations selected from lanthanum or any of the rare earth oxides) up to the limit of solubility; with optional additives, MoO.sub.3 being a preferred additive, that can be employed alone or in combination at levels up to 15 mole %.
