Abstract
In an apparatus for driving a plasma display panel, first and second switches are coupled in series between a power source V.sub.s and one terminal of a panel capacitor. Third and fourth switches are coupled in series between the one terminal of the panel capacitor and a power source -V.sub.s. A contact of the first and second switches is coupled to a ground terminal while the one terminal of the panel capacitor is substantially fixed to a voltage of -V.sub.s. A contact of the third and fourth switches is coupled to the ground terminal while the one terminal of the panel capacitor is substantially fixed to a voltage of V.sub.s. Then, the withstand voltages of the first and second switches can be clamped to V.sub.s while the voltage of -V.sub.s is applied to the one terminal of the panel capacitor. Likewise, the withstand voltages of the third and fourth switches can be clamped to V.sub.s while the voltage of V.sub.s is applied to the one terminal of the panel capacitor.
