Abstract

A quatemary ammonium salt of the following formula (1): {(R.sup.1).sub.a(R.sup.2).sub.b(R.sup.3).sub.c(R.sup.4OCH.sub.2CH.sub.2OC-H.sub.2CH.sub.2).sub.dN}.sup.+.A.sup.- (1) [wherein, R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 may be mutually the same or different and represent an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or analkyloxyethyl group of the formula (2): R.sup.5OCH.sub.2CH.sub.2-- (2) (wherein, R.sup.5 represents a methyl group or ethyl group), R.sup.4 represents a methyl group or ethyl group, and any two of R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 may mutually bond at the end to form an alkylene chain, a, b and c represent an integer of 0 to 3, d represents an integer of 1 to 4, the sum of a, b and c is 3 or less, the sum of a, b, c and d is 4, and A.sup.- represents a bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imidate ion [N(SO.sub.2CF.sub.3).sub.2.sup.-], tetrafluoroborate ion (BF.sub.4.sup.-) or hexafluorophosphate ion (PF.sub.6.sup.-)].
