Abstract
The invention relates to surface-modified pearlescent pigments, the pearlescent pigments being provided on the surface with at least one organic phosphorus compound of the general formula (I) R.sup.1R.sup.2P(O)(OR.sup.3) (I) and/or of the general formula (II) R.sup.1P(O)(OR.sup.3)(OR.sup.4) (II) where R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 independently of one another are hydrogen or an organic radical having 1 to 30 carbon atoms, with the proviso that R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are not simultaneously hydrogen, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 independently of one another are H or alkyl having 1-10 carbon atoms. The invention further relates to a process for preparing these pearlescent pigments and also to their use.
