Abstract
The present invention relates to an agglomeration drum and to a mineral agglomeration method performed inside the drum for, pre-treating minerals, both used principally in hydrometallurgy. The drum and method use a gas recirculation system and a gas recirculation step as part of the invention. Furthermore, the agglomeration method includes the process of chemical reactions that occur inside the agglomeration drum. The agglomeration drum, the agglomeration method and the reactive process allow uniform, stable agglomerates having low degradability and a greater contact surface between the reagent and the agglomerate, to be obtained. The uniform agglomerates produced in the agglomeration drum and in accordance with the method of the invention, increase the extraction yield of the subsequent leaching process, reducing the creation of preferential pathways of the leaching solution in leaching heaps. Additionally, the drum and method of the invention prevent the release of gases into the atmosphere, having a gas recirculation system which, when sealed, keeps the gases within the agglomeration drum and the process. This gas recirculation not only prevents the release of the gases into the atmosphere, but also reduces operational costs, since the recirculated gases are used as part of the agglomeration process.
