The invention provides a rare earth sintered magnet and a method for producing the same. A rare earth sintered magnet is produced by a method comprising the steps of: melting raw materials to form an alloy, pulverizing the alloy into fine powder, forming the fine powder into a formed body, and sintering the formed body. The pulverizing step includes a coarse pulverizing step including hydrogen pulverization; and a fine pulverization step, and further includes a step of adding a lubricant. The sintering step includes an atmosphere heat treatment comprising heating the shaped body in an inert gas atmosphere at a temperature from the decomposition temperature of the lubricant to the sintering temperature and holding at the temperature for a period of time, and a vacuum heat treatment. The sintered magnet has a low impurity concentration and a narrow carbon concentration distribution.
