Incandescent lamp using a carbon cycle comprises a luminescent element (6) which is inserted in a vacuum-tight manner in a bulb (1) along with a filler. The luminescent element is made from a metal carbide having a melting point above the melting point of tungsten. The distance between the luminescent element and the bulb is less than 18 mm. A first cycle for carbon is created using carbon and hydrogen as an additional filler while a second cycle for a metal is created using a halogen.
