Abstract

Method for obtaining a predeterminable weight per unit area in the transverse direction of a fibre layer (23) formed on a moving base (22) for the manufacture of chipboards, fibre boards, and the like, by means of which variations in the raw material composition and variations in the chip geometry can be immediately compensated with a view to maintaining a desired weight per unit area, by changing the thickness of the entire fibre layer (23), or in the case of a fibre layer (23) to be built up in a plurality of layers by changing at least one of the fibre layers, as a function of a desired weight per unit area over the width of the fibre layer, at least in certain regions by a mechanical action over the width of the fibre layer (23).
