Abstract
The present invention relates to a surgical cuttinginstrument comprising: a housing defining a longitudinalaxis; a vibration coupler positioned within the housing andhaving a proximal end positioned to engage an ultrasonicgenerator; a tool member supported adjacent a distal end ofthe vibration coupler and having a cutting surface; a clamppivotally connected to the housing, the clamp beingpositioned adjacent the tool member and being movable from anopen position spaced from the cutting surface to a closedposition in close alignment with the cutting surface; anactuation member operably connected to the clamp and beingmovable to move the clamp between the open position and theclosed position; and a retaining mechanism supported on thehousing, the retainer mechanism being positioned andconfigured to selectively retain the clamp at a plurality ofpositions in relation to the cutting surface of the toolmember.
