Abstract

A device for detecting objects in a sewing machine (1), where the object is illuminated, has color sensor(s) (25) for detecting color properties of the object (or colored markings on the object) in detection region(s). The sensor has at least one outlet for transmitting the detected color properties. Independent claims are included for: (1) a corresponding method for identifying illuminated objects in a sewing machine (1), in which the color characteristics detected by the color sensor (25) are compared with stored criteria and a magnitude indicating unambiguous reference to a particular object is generated if the measured value agrees with a stored value (within predetermined tolerances); and (2) a sewing machine object, releasably connectable or couplable to the machine and detectable by the above device, which has colored markings providing unambiguous reference to each object.
