Abstract

The invention relates to a sensor device (100) for ascertaining process variables in the industrial field, having a sensor base unit (101) and a first expansion module (120). The sensor base unit (101) has the following components: a process variable ascertaining unit (103) for ascertaining the process variable, a first mechanical interface (111) for mechanically receiving a first expansion module (120), and a first communication interface (112) for interfacing with the first expansion module (120) in order to transmit measurement and/or control data. The first expansion module (120) has a second mechanical interface (121) for interfacing with the sensor base unit (101), a third mechanical interface (131) for mechanically receiving a second expansion module (140), a second communication interface (122) for interfacing with the sensor base unit (101) in order to transmit measurement and/or control data, and a third communication interface (132) for interfacing with the second expansion module (140) in order to transmit measurement and/or control data.
