Abstract
The position of the seat unit of a tiltable chair is locked by pin 80 engaging in a selected hole 70 of member 62 which slides in body 66, the slide member and body being attached one each to the seat unit and seat frame. The seat unit is permanently biassed to the forward position by a torsion spring (54, Fig 1). The pin is urged into engagement by spring 86 and released by cable 72 pulling on leaf spring 88, which has a bend 90 acting as a fulcrum about which the spring pivots, whereby the end of the leaf spring lifts the pin by pressing on fixed collar 84. If the shear force of the slide 62 on the pin, caused by the seat spring or a person's weight, exceeds a given amount, the leaf spring cannot release the pin and instead bends. Cable 72 is actuated by a push button (104, Fig 3) whose rear part (108), attached to the cable, is rotatable relative to its front part (106) and carries a pin (116) which follows track 114. The track has two locating positions 121,126 for the pin and repeated pressing on the button moves the pin between them without producing any overall rotation of the cable.
