A method of removing hair from textile articles comprising: providing a solid or liquid composition comprising sodium hydroxide; dispersing the solid or liquid composition in aqueous media to yield a concentration of sodium hydroxide of 1-15% w/w; and contacting the resulting aqueous solution with the textile article at a temperature of 10-120 celcius for 1-180 minutes in order to dissolve hair from the textile article. The textile article may be an item of work wear, preferably an item of headwear. Preferably the method is part of a laundering process. Preferably the method may employ one or more hair dissolving chemical selected from thioglycolic acid or a salt thereof or enzymes. Also claimed is a concentrated composition comprising sodium hydroxide in the form of: a) a liquid concentrate comprising 20-50% w/w sodium hydroxide; or b) a solid concentrate in the form of a power or tablet comprising at least 60% w/w sodium hydroxide in combination with a carrier. Preferably the carrier comprises a detergent or an effervescent material.
