Abstract

A family of power amplifiers called class-N amplifiers comprising a modulator, a pulse-transmitting means, a power switch, a power transformer, and a synchronous demodulator. The modulator produces both PWM pulses and polarity pulses sent via pulse-transmitting means to the power switch to modulate an unregulated DC supply voltage electrically isolated from the amplifier's input and output, and to the synchronous demodulator. The power transformer transmit modulated voltage to the synchronous demodulator, which drives a load. There is no intermediary DC voltage in the amplifiers which operate in ternary mode.
