Abstract
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of 3-hydroxyadamantaneglyoxylic acid of the general formula (1) ##STR00001## or a derivative or salt thereof. In the process, an 1-acyl derivative of adamantane having the formula (2): ##STR00002## wherein R is a C.sub.1 C.sub.5 hydrocarbyl; CH.sub.2OH; CHO; COOH, is contacted with an oxidant under oxidizing conditions leading to the 3-hydroxyadamantaneglyoxylic acid (1) or the derivative or salt thereof.
