Abstract
Disclosed are zinc niobium phosphate glasses consisting essentially, expressed in terms of mole percent on the oxide basis of, 40-65% P2O5, 25-37% ZnO, 0.1-15% Nb2O5, 0-6% Al2O3, 0-5% Bi2O3, 0-3% Na2O and 0-5% B2O3, said glass exhibiting glass transition temperature below 450.degree. C., a dilatometer softening point below 500.degree. C., coefficient of expansion in the range of 80-120.times.10.sup.-7.degree. C..sup.-1, good chemical durability and blue color. The glass of the present invention is useful for sealing optical fiber to ferrule by local heating.
