Abstract
A Wearable device (smart watch) (UE) communicates with an eNB through the relay function or relay service of a mobile terminal (smart phone) (RD). Two operation modes: 1) The RD acts as a Donor eNB (DeNB) through an Un interface to the UE and towards the eNB through an Uu interface as a normal UE; 2) The RD uses ProSe relay function and establishes a PC5-interface towards the UE and uses a Uu interface to the eNB. Problems: 1) A Donor-eNB function is required in RD and the MME needs to know the type of eNB-function of the RD and the eNB. 2) ProSe works on IP-layer for which the RD and not the UE is the termination point. Thus all data and signalling to the UE can be read by the RD. Solution: A secure layer 2 radio level relay connection is established through the RD. The RD acts as termination point of the connection to eNB, and a PC5 connection is established between UE and RD. The eNB assigns a separate CRNTI-R for the UE which is then used for the relay connection, thus separate data streams are send on the Uu interface between RD and eNB, one to the RD itself and one throguh the RD to the UE.
