Abstract
A novel three step process is disclosed for the manufacture of protected, full-color ink jet images for use on large format posters, billboards and the like. An ink receptive element (10), which is used in the process, comprises a temporary carrier layer (12); a protective layer (14), and an ink receptive layer (18). The novel imaging process comprises: A) depositing an ink image layer (17) on the surface of the ink receptive element (10), so that the ink image layer (17) is adhered to the surface of the ink receptive layer (18); B) pressure laminating and adhering a receptor substrate (20) to the ink image layer (17) to form a laminated image element (30); and C) removing the temporary carrier layer (12) from the protective layer (14) of the laminated image element (30) to form a protected imaged substrate (40).
