Abstract

A fastener (10) with a recessed drive socket (13) and a driving tool (50) with a cooperable driving head (52). The socket (13) having a cylindrical interior wall (26) interrupted by a plurality of driving corners (20). The driver having a tapered driving head (52) including a plurality of sharpened driving edges (64) adapted to engage the driving corners (20). The tapered driving end (52) may be axially forced into the driving socket (13) such that the plurality of driving edges (64) frictionally engage the driving corners (20) to hold the fastener (10) on the driver (50) and to enhance torque transmission. The cylindrical walls (26) of the socket (13) and the walls (66) of the driver bit between the driving edges (64) cooperate to define a fluid channel (70) for passage of fluid around the driving head (52) during positioning within the socket (13).
