Abstract
The invention relates to a cylinder for a twin-screw extruder, with the cylinder (1) surrounding a twin-screw of the extruder while defining an extrusion chamber (2). Said cylinder, in turn, is surrounded by a hollow cylindrical jacket (10) that has a smooth interior surface. The outer surface of the cylinder (1) is provided with at least one channel (3) that extends in a screw-like contour in the longitudinal direction of the cylinder (1). Said channel can be connected to an inlet and outlet device (12, 13) for a flowable temperature-controlling medium and is radially shut off at least across a part of the circumference of the cylinder (1) by the hollow cylindrical jacket (10). The at least one channel (3) is worked into the cylinder by thread whirling and the at least one channel (3) is shut off from the hollow cylindrical jacket (10) across the entire circumference thereof. The thread depth of the at least one channel (3) changes in the radial direction across the circumference of the cylinder (1) in such a manner that it is largest in those zones where the initial wall thickness of the cylinder (1) is largest and that it is smallest in those zones where the initial wall thickness of the cylinder (1) is smallest.
