The invention resides in a balloon catheter for the implantation of a stent in a mammalian duct or cavity, comprising an elongate distal section and an expandable first balloon accomodating said section, further comprising means for the supply of a pressure medium for the expansion of said balloon, and means for heating said pressure medium, the catheter being provided with an elongate stent mounted onto said balloon. The catheter contains second means for establishing outwardly directed expansion of the stent at a sight or location selected from the two ends of the stent so that the stent will remain in position as implanted after removal of the catheter from said duct or cavity; and a method for the implantation of a stent in a human prostatic urethra.
