Abstract
An optical connector (1) comprising retaining means (2), cleaning means (5) and a cap (6). The retaining means (2) comprises a tubular retainer (10), a tubular body (12) disposed within the retainer (10) rotatably, and movably in an axial direction, a spring for biasing the body (12) in a forward direction and so forth. The retainer (10) is provided with a pair of resilient pieces (16), and on inner sides of the resilient pieces (16), guiding protrusions are respectively provided. Around a periphery of the body (12), spiral grooves (25, 26) to be engaged with the respective guiding protrusions are formed over an angular range of 360°. Accordingly, when the retainer (10) is moved forward, the body (12) moves rotationally forward due to the behavior between the guiding protrusions and the spiral grooves (25, 26). The cleaning means (5) comprises a cleaning thread (41) provided within a rotating pod (40), a supply reel, a wind reel, a rotational axis and the like, and it is coupled to the body (12). Accordingly, when the body (12) rotates, the rotating pod (40) and the rotational axis rotate to cause the cleaning thread (41) that has been pulled out over an end surface of a cleaning section (S) of the rotational axis to clean a connecting surface (4a or 91a) of the optical connector (3 or 90). The rotating pod (40) pulls out the cleaning thread (41) from the supply reel and winds it into the wind reel through rotation.
