Abstract

The invention relates to a steering system having an uninterruptible mechanical positive coupling between a steering wheel (1) and a steering pinion (4) in the form of a steering shaft (2) and having an electrical auxiliary support, wherein an electric motor (14) introduces the supporting force thereof into the steering system via a reduction gearing (11,12). According to the invention, there is a switchable magnetic brake (47) which, when in a closed switching state, blocks the motor shaft (41) of the electric motor by friction against a motor housing (10) fastened to the body and which, when in an opened switching state, releases the motor shaft (41) such that said motor shaft can be rotated in a fixed transmission ratio with the steering shaft (2).
