Abstract
Braiding or stranding machine (1) for braiding or stranding a cord-shaped material, for example wires, having a rotor which is mounted on a single or multiple part rotor shaft (5, 6, 22), which is driven by at least one motor (8, 8a, 8b). The braiding or stranding machine (1) is arranged at least partially in a space (2) which is enclosed by an envelope (3) and is filled with a medium with a density less than the density of the ambient air, for example by producing negative pressure or by using helium. Because of the lesser air resistance on the rotor, this leads to a lower energy consumption, less noise development and a lower excitement of vibrations. The rotor shaft (5, 6, 22) can be arranged fully inside the envelope (3) of the enclosed space (2) or the rotor shaft (5, 6) has at least one section of a smaller diameter, only a section of a smaller diameter penetrating the envelope (3). This means that air seals (14) with parts in contact with each other and rotating contrary to each other are avoided or high wear of such seals (14) is reduced.
