Leading technology company is currently looking to add an experienced patent attorney, with an Electrical/Computer Science degree or related background, to the management team of a very large in-house intellectual property department, to specialize in developing and supervising open source software licensing compliance programs. Top academic credentials and multiple years working in the software industry are required. The ideal candidate will have a strong and broad understanding of intellectual property and open source licensing issues, including at least three years experience counseling in-house on IP and open source issues, and significant experience as a software developer. Familiarity with C, C++, or Java preferred. Proven project management experience, and strong written and oral communication skills are required. Previous experience supervising attorneys is preferred as well as addressing complex issues of compliance with the GNU GPL. Experience litigating in the copyright or patent area is also desired. Key responsibilities will include oversight of compliance efforts by engineering and other staff, working with the General Counsel and top engineers to develop open source policies and procedures, and counseling on sophisticated issues regarding open source compliance. A candidate's ability to communicate effectively with technical and legal professionals is essential.
