Provide legal advice and counsel to Hughes business and functional units with respect to all Intellectual Property matters

 

·          Develop and implement IP strategies in support of Hughes research and development efforts and product lines

 

·          Draft invention disclosures; prosecute patent applications and trademark registrations; manage outside counsel in connection with same

 

·          Manage patent and trademark portfolio

 

·          Draft and negotiate licensing agreements

 

·          For major system contracts involving new research and development, prepare terms and conditions and advise on statements of work

 

·          Review and advise on IP issues in customer sales contracts (including contracts involving custom development), procurement contracts and software licensing agreements (inbound/outbound)

 

·          Support and/or manage IP aspects of research/commercial collaborations

 

·          Advise on digital media rights-related matters

 

·          Advise on trademark protection strategies

 

·          Manage and advise on IP-related disputes, including litigation

 

·          Counsel on domain registration, maintenance and dispute matters

 

·          Oversee and administer Proprietary Data protection program

 

·          Counsel Hughes on IPR strategies with respect to participation in standards bodies, and handle all associated IPR issues

 

·          Assist in other general legal matters, including providing counsel to Hughes’ Procurement and Government Sales groups.

Requirments

     JD and law license in good standing; USPTO registration a plus

·         technical background; preference for EE or computer science bachelors or masters

·         3-6 years of experience (law firm and/or in-house) as an intellectual property attorney; substantial experience with satellite or wireless communications technology preferred

·         Fluency in patent law, copyright law and trademark law

·         Excellent organizational, analytical, communication and drafting skills

·         Demonstrated ability to take complex technical ideas and frame appropriate agreements around them

·         Ability to work and communicate effectively with engineers, business people, colleagues, senior management and outside counsel

·         Energetic and industrious approach to work, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision

·         Sound legal and business judgment
